How To Write A Great College Admissions Essay

How To Write A Great College Admissions Essay We recommend using the latest versions of EDGE, Google Chrome, or Firefox for your browser when accessing our applications. To create a Rutgers application account, provide your email address and create an 8-character password. Letters of recommendation are not used for admissions consideration. The Rutgers application provides multiple opportunities for applicants to describe their accomplishments, activities, community service, and personal experiences. Students should be certain to complete all sections of the Rutgers application to describe themselves. A portfolio, audition, or interview demonstrating artistic talent is required of all Mason Gross School of the Arts applicants. Mason Gross applicants will be emailed a supplemental application five business days after submitting the application for admission. Complete the online application carefully as it cannot be changed after it has been submitted. You can apply to as many as three Rutgers schools on the one application and independent decisions will be made for each school to which you apply. Please note, older versions of Internet Explorer are not supported. What about yourself would you be willing to share honestly? What kind of language are you most comfortable using? And most importantly, what do you want to know about your interlocutor? Where can there be space in the conversation not only for your own curiosity, but also for the curiosity of the other speaker? A storyteller absorbs the sensations and the happenings of life, and then shapes them into narrative objects of various sizesâ€"here a tall-tale, there a parable, here a quip and there an epic. A storyteller sizes up an audience and bends her/his story to the attentions of those present. A storyteller never tells the same story the same way. To learn more about the talent assessment requirements and deadlines, visit the school’s Audition and Portfolio Information. The SAT essay and ACT writing component are not required. Many applications will require it- or some portion of it; it helps to have the whole essay written and pare it down when needed. Some applications will tell you it’s “optional.” Always, always, always submit it. Or better yet, a storyteller never tells the same story. Don’t just write about what you’re comfortable with, but don’t take a risk that might swallow the essay whole. The best way to approach the admissions essay is to see it as a first conversation. To make a great impression, what would you talk about? Reveals a specific core or “defining” quality (creative, resourceful, fierce, resilient, driven, etc.) about the writer, rather than trying to describe many qualities. If so, you need to know what makes a great essay to know how to start brainstorming and writing your own. There is an important distinction between telling a story and being a storyteller. Anyone can tell a story, but only a true storyteller can pull a captivating narrative out of the most mundane parts of life. A storyteller is equal parts collector and sharer, observer and raconteur.
